These types of exercises are called convergence exercises. They work the set of muscles on the outside of the eye called the extra-ocular muscles, which have no function related to focusing. Now, I’m not saying that this kind of eye exercise is not important or good for you…it can be…but to say that this will help you see more clearly is a lie. In most programs, including the former See Clearly Method, they are all convergence exercises and not a single one actually works the part of the eye responsible for focusing clearly.

Now, before I can tell you how to do it, wouldn’t it make sense if I were to explain just a little bit about how the eye actually focuses? This way, you will clearly see why most other programs are inefficient.
How Your Eyes Focus

This is a cross-section of the human eye. You’ll notice that all the parts are clearly labeled, but there’s one part I want to bring to your attention. It’s called the ciliary body muscle. This muscle is the one that is responsible for your ability to focus and see clearly at all distances.
The muscle is attached to a part of the eye called the lens. The action of the ciliary body muscles, the lens, and the strings that connect the two (called zonules), all work together to bring light into clear focus on the back of the eye. This process of focusing is called accommodation.
If you are nearsighted, the image comes to a focus prior to reaching the back of the eye and the lens, zonules, and ciliary body muscles are not capable of shifting that focal point all the way to the back of the eye. The result is a blurry image for all objects that are in the distance. Some people will describe this as the eye being too long. (This is actually true, but more on that later).
If you are farsighted, the image comes to a focus behind the back of the eye and the system is incapable of shifting it forward enough. The result is a blurry image for all objects up-close. Here, the eye is too “short”, again, another correct description.
What if you were given a set of eye exercises that expand the range through which your eyes can focus?
Do you think you would be able to see more clearly, even though your eye is still too long or too short? Of course you would. Like I said, this is science, and science always makes sense. Let’s talk about accommodative range and…
Imagine with me for a moment that you are out of shape physically. You can still move about, maybe you can jog a little bit, perhaps a push-up or two, sit-up, and chin-up, but you definitely have limits to how much you can do. Your muscles currently have limitations.
Now, if you and I were to start a workout program, and we stick with it together for a defined period of time, do you believe that the end result would be an ability to lift more weight, with more endurance, and less effort? This only makes sense right?

If you are nearsighted, your eye doctor will prescribe a minus diopter lens of sufficient strength to adjust your focal point farther back so that the image is sharp right on the back of the eye. This lens takes all distant objects and optically makes them up-close.
